Davrom SCO/Linux InstallationWe are often asked for pricing on installing or upgrading SCO and Linux systems so this page is designed to act as a guide to working out approximately how many hours of our on-site installation time, based on your respective support rate (End-User or Reseller) would be required. To simply install a brand new Linux or SCO system and have it setup and ready for an application vendor to install their product, has to date not exceeded 6-12 hours (12 hours total in specific cases) of work time. This includes printer setup and kernel tuning. To install a new system and port over the existing users, printers and filesystem data from an existing Linux or SCO system, the time-frame fits within the 6-8 hours in most cases. The application vendor will need to be advised and possibly involved where required. For upgrading to the latest release of Linux or SCO on an existing server (where hardware configurations allow for this to take place - eg., hard disk space or installing in a virtual environment such as VMware), the timeframe here can range from 6-8 hours but may extend to 10-12 hours. The reason for this is often the tape/network speed backup/restore timeframe or the extra requirements for virtual machine setup. It is sometimes preferred that a fresh installation of Linux or SCO is performed and the respective root filesystem changes are restored to the system once the fresh installation is complete. ![]() |
